The late Paul Reubens’ old LA home has sold for $3.8 million

Just months after going on the market, the Los Angeles home of late actor Paul Reubens, best known for portraying the character Pee-wee Herman, has sold.

The Reubens estate listed the property in late May, with an original asking price of $4.99 million that was reduced to $4.5 million last month. Now, reports Realtor.com, a new owner has snapped up the midcentury modern-style residence for $3.8 million, more than $1 million less than the original asking price.

Reubens, who died last year at age 70 after a six-year battle with cancer, bought the Los Feliz home in 1985 for just $415,000, The Post previously reported. He paid for it with the profits from Tim Burton’s 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, which inspired the late 1980s children’s television series Pee-wee’s Playhouse.

Built in 1957, the residence sits atop a promontory overlooking the Hollywood sign and down a private driveway.

“If you go up there, it’s like being in a magical Doctor Doolittle-type land because there are so many animals,” Douglas Elliman agent Juliette Hohnen, who handled the listing, told The Post shortly after it went on the market.

One of the adaptations Reubens added to the place was an enclosed, aviary-like “catio” so his beloved feline companions could enjoy the outdoors while being protected from the area’s wildlife.

“He created this magical playground for them,” Hohnen noted.

Other customizations include the unique configuration of the master bedroom dressing room, an abundance of unusual wallpaper and a secret bar equipped with a door.

In total, the home is approximately 3,000 square feet and has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is a den with a built-in bar and a fireplace, as well as a kitchen with a breakfast nook. The two bedrooms have a Jack-and-Jill style bathroom.

Set on 1.4 acres, the home also has a patio and pool that can be accessed by sliding doors from the living room.
